Labiette Castille Bas Armagnac is produced in the heart of the Bas Armagnac region in Southwest France, in one of the most renowned terroirs of the Armagnac AOC which is owned by Chateau de Laubade.  Labiette Castille Bas Armagnac is the newest brand and newest expression of Bas Armagnac from Chateau de Laubade. The superb terroir is composed of a mix of fawn-colored sands and clay. The vineyards cover 260 acres and are planted with the four traditional grapes - Ugni Blanc, Baco 22A, Colombard and Folle Blanche. The vineyard is a low yield and sustainable vineyard. There is also a 40-acre Gascony oak forest planted in 1998 for future casks.

This single estate, founded originally in 1898 by an influential French statesman, was purchased by the Lesgourgues family in 1974. Being the largest single family-owned estate in the Bas Armagnac region, the Lesgourges family has an immense cellar of aging brandies from which to blend fine Armagnacs.  A few years ago, they determined that they had sufficient quantities of high quality brandies to create a new expression of the Chateau de Laubade terroir. The new brand Labiette Castille was born. Drawn from the same casks of aging brandy as their namesake Chateau de Laubade Armagnac, Labiette Castille VS, VSOP, XO and Vintage Bas Armagnacs are completely new and different blends composed by Cellar Master (Maître de Chai) François Lasportes to bring forward the deeper, spicier elements of the terroir. Throughout the Labiette Castille range, you'll be greeted with delightful aromas and notes of cinnamon, clove, vanilla and cocoa, as well as orange blossom, hyacinth, plum, pear and candied fruit.

The name and design of Labiette Castille are a tribute the the musketeer, D'Artagnan, the famous Musketeer of King of France Louis XIV.  D'Artagnan, who was known for his bravery and fighting spirit was born in nearby Sorbets, in Gers, France.

The blends of Labiette Castille are exclusively made from the single family-estate vineyards.  They are entirely composed of the four traditional grape varieties:  Ugni Blanc (Trebbiano), Bac 22A, Colombard and Folle Blanche.

After being harvested and made into wine, the wine of each grape variety is distilled separately in a traditional Alambic column still.  This guarantees that the most complex flavors and aromatic components remain after the distillation.

Then, the resulting eau-de-vie is aged, grape variety by grape variety and vintage year by vintage year only in casks made of Gascony oak.  This high quality oak contributes to integrating the tannins of the brandies while revealing a wonderful range of aromas and flavors through the years.

Aging in so many different single casks enables the Cellar Master, François Lasportes,  to compose the highest quality blends of Armagnac.

Each Labiette Castille is blended and bottled under the watchful eye of François and the Lesgourges family.  Each blend shows a much superior age than is required by the Armagnac regulatory council.  These blends are known for their generous character and are well-known for their aromatic strength and roundness combined with great finesse.
